Originally founded in 1948 as the Dominion Life Choir, the K-W Singers is a multi-age, four-part adult choir located in Kitchener, Ontario.  The choir performs two concerts per year, in December and April/May.  They also perform mini concerts in retirement homes throughout the community.

The choir is a registered charity and supports itself through donations, ticket sales and various fundraising activities.  Jane Gingerich has been the director since 2010, and Donna Mak has been the accompanist since 1998.


Jane Gingerich, Director

Jane Gingerich graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Western Ontario in 1990 and her Bachelor of Education in 1991. Jane has been a teacher with the Waterloo County Board of Education since 1991, and she is currently the Head of Music at Southwood Secondary School, a position she has held since 2004. In addition to teaching vocal, guitar and instrumental music, Jane directs Southwood’s numerous choirs, the Junior Concert Band and the Guitar Ensemble.   She has also been the musical director for several school musicals including OKLAHOMA, GREASE, and BACK TO THE ‘80s. Jane is a past Board of Director for the Ontario Vocal Festival, a former director of the Inter-Mennonite Children’s Choir (1997 – 2000) and the WLU Jazz Choir (2000-2004). Jane is an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honarary Organization for Women Educators. When Jane is not conducting she enjoys singing, playing the guitar and piano, spending time with family and friends, cooking, traveling and reading mystery novels.


Donna Mak, Piano

AD, MMus, BMus, ARCT
Donna Mak has a broad performance history as a soloist, accompanist, and collaborative musician. She dedicates an exciting schedule of teaching piano and theory students from beginner to diploma levels at her own studio ( She has received numerous honours for her contributions to teaching from both the community as well as from the professional field, and her students have also received countless awards for their musical achievements and successes.  Donna is a long time RCM piano specialist Examiner in Canada and USA; is a competition and festival adjudicator; and is actively involved in much volunteer work.  Beyond her musical world, Donna enjoys creative food art, photography, social painting, dogs, suspense movies, and fun with family and friends.
